3          CORRESPONDENCE

All matters arising from the last meeting are covered by the correspondence.

3.1       Survey on domestic refuse collection.     Councillor Colleran forwarded a copy of a reply she had received from LES regarding the decision by JCC not to reply to the survey.       No information on alternative collection dates has been received and Councillor Colleran confirmed she had heard nothing either.

3.2       Victoria Park Blaes Pitches.      Copies of correspondence from the West Area Committee to LES and Culture and Sport seeking confirmation that these pitches will be returned to recreational use.

3.3       HMO King Edward Road.      Having received no reply from the Chief Executive to our letter dated 10 November, SM phoned to ask if such delays were normal for replies to formal complaints.      A two page reply followed two days later.

While generally defending all the actions of the staff during the lengthy exercise, there was an admission that improvements would be made to inform the public about procedures when attending the court.        No further action seems worthwhile.

3.4       Royal Garden Party.     An invitation for 2 members to attend this event on  13 July was received.   No action.

3.5       Bridge Bar, Crow Road.    SM had received 2 emails from residents of Claythorn regarding the application for a new licence by the Bridge Bar, alleging disturbances and criminal activities by patrons.   Members of JCC have no adverse comments, nor have we received any complaints from local residents.   It appears the owner failed to comply with new legislation and is seeking to sell the property.     It is currently closed.    No action.

3.6       Friends of Victoria Park        A geological group (Strathclyde RIGS) emailed to intimate a site meeting at the Fossil Grove on 5 February.      They are concerned at the state of the building and the irregular opening arrangements.   SM to attend.

4          COUNCILLOR COLLERAN

Reported on the recent problems in respect of the recent bad weather conditions.

LES budget overspent by £5M but the Council has confirmed that resources will be found to repair the potholes and carry out long overdue road maintenance.

She had had complaints from residents asking for the grit which was heavily spread on foot ways to be swept up.

Community Councils are to be asked to take part in a survey in order to learn lessons about the gritting problems.

There was discussion on whether local residents should clear the foot way outside their property.     Recent press reports indicate that the current legal advice is to leave them untouched in order to avoid claims by pedestrians slipping on the cleared areas.    Clarification is required.

The warden of Strathmore Court has contacted her regarding the lack of gritting which kept many elderly residents from venturing outside.
