2          Report on telephone call to Councillor Mason

2.1       SM reported that he had phoned CM during the afternoon to find out if he expected to attend and discovered he was unable to do so.

2.2       CM is one of the 4 councillors representing 4 different political parties elected to serve our enlarged area but they have not yet met to discuss among themselves how to allocate duties.

2.3       CM had nothing to report on any ongoing matters concerning Jordanhill Campus.

2.4       SM told CM about the difficulties being experienced with the pedestrian phase of the new signals at Whittinghame Drive.       The contents of Mrs McDougall’s letter to JCC were discussed and CM undertook to contact an official in Land Services on 15 May.

2.5       At the beginning of May SM had contacted CM regarding the new pedestrian crossing on Anniesland Road beside the new housing development.     Local residents on the north side of Anniesland Road had campaigned for a crossing despite the fact that there is no proven demand for one, and it was not as a result of the recent fatality further along the road.       It transpires that the developer was required to pay all the costs of installation.

3          POLICE REPORT

3.1       Jean Brown read from a report passed to her by Constable Ash for the period 1 to 30 April..   This showed a total of 20 crimes , 5 detections and 3 enquiries ongoing.      Figures in brackets indicate the number reported and detected respectively)

vandalism   (8, 2)    theft by housebreaking    (3, enquiries ongoing)     theft  (5, 2) theft from motor vehicle     (2, 0)           theft of motor vehicle (1, 1)    breach of the peace   (1, 0)

3.2       Constable Ash has investigated the problem of the ice cream van outside Jordanhill School and had ascertained that its trading licence permits this activity.

3.3       The possibility of introducing litter wardens and dog fouling wardens into this area is being investigated.

3.4       The problems with the pedestrian phase at Whittinghame Drive are known to the police.

3.5       During discussions on the pedestrian phase it was suggested that SM should approach the headteachers of Jordanhill School and the High School with a view to them taking steps to try to arrange a warden to assist the high volume of schoolchildren using this crossing.      The subject of “Safer Routes to School” should be raised.
