the following report
(number of incidents and number detected)
Assault (1.0), theft by housebreaking (1.0), attempted
housebreaking (1,1) theft of motor
vehicle (1,0), theft (1,0) vandalism (6,0), street drinking (1,0), road
traffic (1,0), possession of drugs (1,1).
There are no reported
problems with local groups of youths congregating at corners.
Councillor Mason (CM)
believes police should carry out frequent patrols of the walkway to deal with
illegal drinking.
3 MATTERS ARISING
3.1 GCSS speaker. SM reported that he had arranged for a
representative from GCSS to attend this evening to explain the work of this
organisation. Officers can issue on
the spot fines for litter and dog fouling etc. No one appeared.
3.2 Traffic survey. Land Services have confirmed that they will carry out a
pedestrian count at Danes Drive with a view to providing a new signalised
crossing there.
3.3 Jordanhill Campus.
3.3.1 SU have produced a consultation statement
and the Chairman and SM submitted a written response. However SU submitted
their report to GCC without our input.
SM updated members on developments.
3.3.2 CM confirmed that Jordanhill School will be appointed to manage the open spaces
(playing fields)
3.3.3 Val Hunter from SU proposes to set up an
office in the Stow Building so that local residents can meet her to discuss
matters relating to the housing development. It was suggested that this news would be suitable for
inclusion in the next edition of Jordanhill “Soup”.
3.4 Planning inconsistencies.
3.4.1 SM reported on recent planning consents for
roofs to new extensions. In the case
of 11 Borden Road, a very slight slope was accepted whereas two adjoining
houses in Austen Road had been forced to provide unusual steep pitched roofs at
considerable expense.
3.4.2 It transpires that if there are fewer than
six objections to a planning application then the decision is made by an
official without reference to committee.
Even if the sole objector is a community council (as a statutory
consultee) that objection does not go before committee.. CM and Councillor Colleran were unhappy
with this apparent system and agreed to pursue the matter.
3.4.3 SM reported the recent large article in the
London Times newspaper regarding flawed advice and decisions by GCC planners in
respect of a flat roof extension in Claythorn and how the applicant eventually
proved the planners to be wrong.
The whole subject of consistency must be addressed.
3.4.4 SM also reported that the designated planning
officer for any planning application can be contacted during only one specific
half day each week. Colleagues take
turns in manning the phones to “allow each other to get on with their work
undisturbed”.
3.4.5 Councillor Colleran suggested that
all the above matters should be raised at the next Area Committee meeting.
3.5 SM reported that the Army had contacted
him by phone and email offering their assistance with any suitable community
projects. Members agreed we have
nothing suitable.
