3          Councillor Mason Report

Councillor Mason arrived at this point and asked to be allowed to give his report as he had to leave shortly to attend another meeting

3.1       Objections to planning applications.      A new system has been introduced by the City Council Executive:     Any application which receives one or two objections will decided by officials without reference to Committee.     Only where three or more objections are received will councillors become involved.

3.2       Campus Plan   CM had attended a meeting with Strathclyde University and was broadly satisfied with their most recent draft plan.

3.3       New house at 275 Southbrae Drive CM had examined the plans for this and believes it to be a genuine “millionaire’s home”.        Members do not agree.

3.4       Railway update   Recent proposals for the railways feature upgrades of Hyndland Station but no mention of a new station at Westland Drive.

3.5       Residents’ Parking   Land Services have intimated that they intend to extend resident parking schemes westwards to Crow Road.       CM feels JCC should consider demanding similar protection for Jordanhill.   With the introduction of parking charges at Gartnavel Hospital and the increase of on-street parking for all day commuters using Jordanhill and Hyndland stations, Jordanhill could becomes an overspill parking area for Claythorn and Broomhill.

3.6       Indian Summer   CM has received many complaints about the Indian Summer concert in Victoria Park and will seek to prevent future concerts.

Councillor Mason left the meeting at this point and confirmed he would be unable to attend our next meeting.

4          Approval of the previous minutes

6          Matters arising

6.1       Jordanhill Campus.     SM and JG attended a meeting with officials of SU who presented parts of their draft detailed plan for the campus.     A planning official also attended.    In brief, the open playing fields will remain, protected by a Trust  (currently being drafted) which will give access to them by Jordanhill School and the public.         The two student residences, Robertson House and Douglas House will be converted to flats.       An exhibition of the final scheme will be held, possibly in October.     It was agreed that SU would produce a newsletter to be distributed to all residents of Jordanhill.

6.2       Core Path Plan.     SM and Robin Miller attended a meeting along with Councillor Clay regarding the draft Core Plan of routes within the City.    SM prepared a draft response which he read to members and it was approved.      One aspect which raised concern during the discussions was the revelation that cyclists are now free to cycle anywhere in all our parks.

6.3       New House at 275 Southbrae Drive.      SM reported that he had obtained drawings for a planning application for the demolition of the existing bungalow and the construction of a four storey house with 5 bedrooms (all en-suite).       The house will  contain  7 toilets, 6 showers and 2 baths and there is a concern that it may be used for sub-letting.     Following a consultation with several members of JCC during the summer, SM wrote to the Director of Planning expressing our concerns that the property might be built with a view to sub-letting.

6.4       Private lanes.       Concerns were raised about the state of several local lanes and SM reminded members that some lanes are private (i.e. are not maintained by the City Council).    SM was asked to write to Land Services to obtain a comprehensive list of the status of all lanes within Jordanhill

6.5       Knightswood Bus Garage advert.     SM produced an advert for new apartments being built at Knightswood Bus Garage, described as being in Jordanhill.  The web site also claims the site is in Jordanhill.   SM had telephoned the sales director but he refused to accept that his advert was misleading.     SM was instructed to take the matter further.

6.6       Blocked drains in lanes.       Mary Wilson reported that a number of drains in local lanes were blocked.      Councillors Clay and McLean noted the locations and agreed to follow this up.                                                                                                             6.7           Southbrae Gardens      SM reported that an objector to the changes made by Cala (JCC also objected) had contacted Planning to enquire about progress and was told the Department was had not yet had time to attend to the objections.

6.8       New Committee    SM confirmed that a new chairman would have to be elected at the next meeting as the present chairman had now served for two years.     Other office bearers will also be elected for the coming year.
