Minutes of Jordanhill Community Council

held on Monday 5 January 2009 in Jordanhill Church Hall.

 

Present          Jean Brown (Chair), David Brown, Jack Gaw, Maria Hope, Stuart McLean, and Robert Mellish.

                        Constables Docherty and Cross attended the first part of the meeting.

1          Adoption of previous minutes.

It was noted that Constable Ash had attended the previous meeting, not Constable Docherty as recorded.      With that change, approval of the minutes of 1 December was proposed by Maria Hope  and seconded by David Brown..

 

2          Police Report

2.1       Constable Docherty intimated that he had been permitted to provide crime figures as formerly, despite the intention of the force to centralise this procedure.      The quoted figures for December showed 34 crimes of which 9 were detected.:   assault (1,1)   theft by housebreaking (5,0) attempted housebreaking (1,1)   theft of motor vehicle (1,0)   attempted theft from motor vehicle (2,0)  theft (4.1)  vandalism (3,0)  fire raising (1,0)  breach of the peace (1,1)   street drinking (2,2) road traffic ( 3.3).    

2.2       Constable Docherty explained that he and his colleague were part of the new large team of community officers designated to serve the ward.  He also stated that further changes to shift patterns were to follow in a few months.

2.3       SM reported that our chairman Dr Anderson had accepted an invitation from Commander Ann McGuire to visit her at her office during December to explain her decision to change the system of community policing.     Superintendent Donaldson from Partick office had also attended.     

 

3          Getting Glasgow Waste Wise

3.1       SM stated that he had received an email from this group requesting permission to attend this meeting.      The project involves raising awareness of waste prevention in 4 areas of Glasgow, one of which is Jordanhill.

3.2       Alex Warren spoke about the project and answered questions from members.

3.3       Development is at an early stage, and it was agreed that we would put information on our web site, as and when suitably firm details emerge.

 

4          College update

4.1       SM reported he had received an email today from Val Hunter regarding the setting up of a research project by SU to consider the effects on the local community by SU leaving the campus.        

4.2       It is confirmed that the projected date for leaving the campus remains as 2011 and work on the construction of the new education faculty building in town should commence this spring.      The lack of funding from the delayed dale of the campus will not affect the project.

4.3       SU have purchased the house at No. 55 Jordanhill Drive with a view to improving the junction at the north access to the campus site when housing is developed

6          AOCB

6.1       The poor quality of roads maintenance was discussed,  The new deep pothole on Jordanhill Drive at Chamberlain Road was mentioned and Cllr Clay agreed to report it to Land Services.

6.2       SM confirmed he had received no information re traffic surveys at Danes Drive as requested.   He will follow this up.

6.3       A recent item in the press stated that permissible planning rules are to be extended such that house-owners could develop huge extensions without applying for planning consent.   It was felt this is a bad move.     However there has been no notification from GCC or the Scottish Office to JCC.re any consultation.      SM to follow up.
