4 CAMPUS DEVELOPMENTS
4.1 The planning submission
SM reported
that a formal application for Planning Permission in Principle (PPP) had been received from the Planning
Department on 22 April with a request for comments within 14 days. The submission comprised 10 documents
contained over 500 pages .plus drawings.
These had been circulated to the executive for study.
4.2 Liaison with Jordanhill School.
Following
receipt of the documents, SM had several discussions with the Rector of
Jordanhill School who, despite being a major player in relation to the playing
fields, was not entitled to receive the full submission. Several important documents were loaned
to him for study. He also gave us a
detailed note of the School’s proposals for taking over the playing fields.
4.3 Executive Meeting
Members of
the executive and 3 members of JCC closely involved with the campus development
met on Sunday 8 May to draft a response for further discussion at the meeting
on 9 May.
4.4 Discussions on the submission
Using the
draft letter as a basis for discussion, the contents were read out and
following a considerable session of questions and answers, a final text was
agreed including several suggestions from the floor. This included agreement to incorporate the notes prepared by
the Rector. SM will finalise the
letter and seek final approval from the Chairman before submission of JCC’s
formal reply to the Planners.
4.5 Other actions suggested.
It was
agreed that the School should be contacted with the suggestion that a circular
be sent out through the pupils to advise parents and the wider community of the
current application and of the desire of the School (supported by JCC) to take
over the pitch

6.1 Cyclists on the walkway.
As agreed
the Chairman raised this matter with the local police who undertook to step up
patrols on the Walkway.
6.2 Litter around Victoria Park.
Concern was
expressed about the general state of Victoria Park and a number of members of
the public have arranged to meet local City Councillors shortly to discuss.
6.3 Cala Development - surplus land
A resident
in Jordanhill Drive had contacted SM regarding problems with land behind her
property which was formally looked after by Strathclyde University but had been
taken over by Cala. Large areas of
forest were unsuitable for housebuilding and these have been transferred to
“community ownership” and the
responsibility of all the owners of houses built by Cala.
6.4 Lack of attendance by City Councillors.
Yet again no
City Councillors attended our monthly meeting. It was agreed that we should write to all 4 Councillors
expressing our disappointment that they seldom come along to offer us support and
guidance.
6.5 Lack of response by City Lighting.
It was
reported that despite repeated reports to the Lighting Department regarding a
dangerous column at 49 St Kilda Drive, no action had been taken. Local residents are meeting Councillor
Colleran shortly to discuss.
6.6 Contact with Bill Kidd
It was
agreed that we should make contact with our new MSP Bill Kidd.
